Curated Threads has found the cure for closet chaos
Some people hate shopping. It might be an aversion to pushy salespeople, confusion about what’s in style, body image issues, or simply a desire to spend their time on something else. But that doesn’t mean they want to wear dated, worn-out clothes.
Whitney McMeekin and Courtney Russell love shopping. They also love hunting down quality garments at good prices, organizing closets, creating new outfits, and making clients happy. That’s why they started Curated Threads, a business that can customize services depending on what clients need, leaving them with an organized closet and a variety of looks for every occasion.
And a shopping-averse client doesn’t have to venture into a single store.
“Some people haven’t shopped since high school, and they don’t know where to start,” McMeekin says. “They don’t know their size, what looks good, and they just shut down and leave. We’re so familiar with brands and styles, and we can bring them to the person’s home, and it’s such a comfort thing, not feeling judged.”
They have been surprised by how common this feeling is. “So many women tell us they end up with this stuff they’ve been talked into, and they don’t really like it; they don’t know how to wear it,” Russell says. “Maybe they feel overwhelmed or got into a rut. They’ve put themselves on the back burner.”
To get started, McMeekin and Russell will take everything out of a closet and encourage the client to get rid of worn-out items and unworn pieces that aren’t the right fit. “We do it in a nice way: This had a good run,” McMeekin says. “You’re better than this.” They will help consign or donate discarded items.
The useful pieces go back in, and McMeekin and Russell take notes on what is missing. After shopping, they return with items for the client to try, and can put together dozens of outfits blending older and new pieces, including jewelry and shoes. They then create a look book—digital or physical—so the client can refer to it when they have a big meeting, outing, or party. “They don’t even have to think about getting dressed,” McMeekin says.
They use a variety of sources to assemble looks, including local shops like Southern Girl Chic, Monkee’s, Harrington’s, Muse, and Blossom Shoes & Such, as well as online and chain retailers.
McMeekin and Russell shop according to each client’s clothing budget, and can work on an hourly rate or in packages that include the Closet Edit, the Wardrobe Refresh, and personal styling sessions. “Sometimes people just want the purge only, or sometimes they just want new outfits,” Russell says. “We can do that.”
Though they typically work in the Upstate, they are happy to travel. One extremely generous husband in Florida flew Russell and McMeekin there, gave them a place to stay, and had them create a whole new wardrobe for his wife.
They also shop for men, and have helped clients get ready for sorority rush, fall photos, and Christmas card pictures. Packing for trips is another specialty; they once sent a client to Portugal with mix-and-match pieces that allowed her to travel with just a small carry-on.
The Curated Threads duo is enjoying being able to do what they love and help others in the process. “It’s a rewarding job,” McMeekin says. “People tell us it sparks confidence, and it spreads to other parts of their life. We can see that spark, and we love helping people feel their best.”

Shopping Connection
Whitney McMeekin and Courtney Russell met through Jenny Hall, owner of Harrington’s, a shop on Augusta Road. Hall was a client of Russell’s, and suggested the two women meet, knowing they shared a passion for shopping and styling.
Another former client, Janie Marchbanks, had just made the same suggestion. “We met for coffee, and we just hit it off, like we’d known each other forever,” Russell says.
