“Growing up, my mother loved the British decorating style,” reflects Kate Roehrs, owner of the Shop Around the Corner in Anderson. “Our home reflected that traditional English aesthetic: a mix of the old and new, very comfortable and colorful with lots of patterns.”
After a career in teaching and years spent raising children, when the time came for Roehrs to pivot to a fresh venture, it was only natural that she chose to mix the old and the new once again by opening a pop-up boutique in September of 2025. Inside the Shop Around the Corner, Roehrs curates vintage finds with modern gifts, home goods, and original art to reflect her own passion for the cozy and eclectic British approach to living spaces.
“There are no rules or limits to what I like,” says Roehrs. “I love to source antiques and travel to find new things. Because the shop has pop-up hours [rather than being open daily], my schedule is flexible enough to do what I love and create a really special experience for people. When you walk in, you’ll find something that meets your needs—but is also really fun and colorful. The whole point is to inspire joy.”
Like an English country home layered with florals and stripes, personal treasures and pieces of history, the Shop Around the Corner is filled wall-to-wall with European gifts, irresistible collectibles, and hidden gems. Hand-blown glass from Germany, heirloom ceramics, charming candles, children’s toys, a cascade of vibrant paper goods—the shop is meant to be savored, not sped through.
“I think people are ready for color and pattern,” she says. “We’ve been in a beige, boring era where everything in shops felt kind of generic—like it could go in any house. That said, I am very much a maximalist. One of the most rewarding parts of opening the shop is seeing how thrilled people are to be in a place that is fun and beautiful and colorful, who walk out and think, ‘That is the happiest place on earth, and I can’t wait to go back.’”

Late-Night Cake
On the first Friday of the month, the shop is open late for Nighty Nite Sugah, a special event benefiting the Anderson Free Clinic. Roehrs serves homemade cake while you sip and browse.
