The approach of spring always sparks an irresistible urge in me to be outside.
It’s no coincidence our annual Sporting Issue of TOWN Magazine comes in March. What better time to prepare for long-practiced activities while considering something fresh and fun?
Ever the generalist—my frequent half-serious jest is “good at everything, great at nothing”—I’m as likely to grab a racket as a rod-and-reel, or wear my hiking shoes for a round of golf. The need to be prepared when a particular mood strikes is strong. We’re fortunate to have a wide array of outdoor options here in the Upstate and, when the weather’s right, there’s no time to waste.
Inside this issue, you’ll find all sorts of sports and a palette of pursuits. Hit the road with resident cycling legend George Hincapie, sail an epic voyage with a 13 Stripes Brewery connection, or cast a line on Lake Hartwell. Too adventurous for your tastes? Then maybe pickleball or a day hike will do.
All that and more can be found on the following pages. The takeaway is simple: Keep moving and see where it takes you, whether around the corner or to the other side of the world.
While you’re at it, carry along a copy of TOWN. We’re full of good ideas.
