The heritage of the past influences contemporary chic at Porch and Parlour Home
Shannon Hopkins, creative director of Porch and Parlour Home, grew up in the home furnishings business, accompanying her grandfather to the Atlanta furniture market. Now, with her love for design and two decades of experience in home decor, she’s launched a line of luxury pillows, which are exclusively sold online.
The company name came to her as she searched to solidify the label. When it dawned on her that she constantly worked at home “from either my porch or my parlor,” she realized she’d been living the brand for months. Featuring plush velvets, the softest cotton/linen blends, and sumptuous suedes, the four collections entitled Senlin, Sangri, Veneta, and Signature range from bright colors to sophisticated neutral tones.
Choose from border prints, florals, Chinese motifs, tropical patterns, animal and nature-inspired prints, or whimsical graphics for the pillows which are curated and printed in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and then cut, sewn, packaged, and shipped from Greenville. Added touches of luxe are the gold metal P + P zipper pull, the shocking pink dust bag pillow cover, and the distinctive enclosure card that relates the unique story of each printed pillow.
All the Porch and Parlour Home prints are derived from an archival treasure trove of over one million fabric swatches housed at the Baxter Mill Archives, dating from the early 1600s. Hopkins and her creative team at Baxter Mill design and collaborate using the vintage “documents” for inspiration. “Reinterpreting history through a contemporary lens, the pillows transcend decoration and become storytellers in their own right,” says Hopkins.
“It’s so gratifying to reach into the past and update the designs for the modern home. Eventually we hope to expand our decor and lifestyle brand into bedding, table linens, and dog beds to complete the look.”
Prices range from $169 to $260 for squares, bolsters, and lumbars.
Refresh Your Room
Shannon Hopkins advises that pillows are the easiest way to seasonally refresh an interior. Here are her secrets for dazzling room decor.
- Don’t be afraid to mix different patterns and colors.
- Don’t be tied to using one size; mix small and large.
- Don’t forget to do the “knife chop” on pillows for a decorator look.
- Don’t worry, there never can be too many pillows.
