Sigal Music Museum makes world-class musical experiences intimate and affordable

Filled with exquisite instruments and exuding a one-of-a-kind ambience, Sigal Music Museum is a hidden gem: a magnet for high-caliber, highly curated musical experiences and a music lover’s dream.

Boasting a world-class collection of antique harpsichords, pianos, and orchestral instruments, as well as others from around the globe in an intimate, welcoming space with a one-of-a-kind ambience, the Sigal museum has slowly been building its roster of live events, with this fall season promising to be the most wide-ranging and awe-inspiring yet.

“A particular highlight of this fall season is the Min Xiao-Fen and River Guerguerian performance at the Fine Arts Center, one of the first events where we’re partnering with an outside entity to host it at a bigger venue, because it’s truly a big deal—and a multimedia experience,” reveals Chris Stack, director of marketing for Sigal. “Min was commissioned by the Smithsonian to create these works, which called for a higher level of production.”

The Distinguished Lecture Series at Sigal is a fascinating deep dive into music that also happens to include free admission when you RSVP to reserve a seat. “Bob Moog is considered the father of the synthesizer—he was one of the original pioneers of the technology, and changed the face of music back in the ’60s,” says Stack of the November lecture. The event is headlined by Moog’s daughter, Michelle Moog-Koussa, who runs the Bob Moog Foundation and Moogseum in Asheville. “It’s a great chance for people in Greenville to learn more of that story,” adds Stack.

Two other highlights Stack shares are a hauntingly beautiful Halloween concert with vocalist Valentine Wolfe and bassist Braxton Ballew; as well as a lecture by museum co-founder Tom Strange on the Berent 1775 Piano, the first piano commercially made and sold in the United States, as well as two other legendary pianos with fascinating stories.

The events are also a great excuse to explore the museum’s new upcoming exhibit, which is focused on the science behind musical instruments and STEM subjects. The monthly tea series, for instance, allows the listener to enjoy a “proper British tea—and while you’re there, Bridgerton fans can visit Queen Charlotte’s harpsichord, a wedding gift from George III,” smiles Stack.
