For the last couple of months, you may have seen our stories about MDVIP, a new membership-based program that partners with primary care doctors to offer a more personalized, preventative approach to health care.
For an annual fee, you can join MDVIP, a program where physicians significantly limit the number of patients they see, capping it at around 600.
Patients can even get next-day appointments and speak with their physician after hours as a part of the program.
But sometimes numbers matter more than words. And according to several recent studies, not only can the MDVIP program help lower your medical costs, but it can also help keep you healthier in the long term.
By The Numbers:
- A 2012 study in the American Journal of Managed Care determined that Medicare patients in MDVIP-affiliated practices were admitted to the hospital 79% less than patients in traditional primary care practices.
- A 2013 study published in Future Cardiology revealed that MDVIP-affiliated practices had identified 40% more patients at risk of having a heart attack or stroke than would have been identified using standard cholesterol tests only.
- Perhaps the best illustration of the value of participating in the MDVIP program came from a 2014 study, also published in the American Journal of Managed Care. This study found that members of MDVIP-affiliated practices experienced considerably lower emergency department visits and inpatient admissions, resulting in savings of $3.7 million over a two-year period.
If you don’t believe the hype, believe the numbers: MDVIP can save you more money and time than you might think.
