Peek into the rewards of an award-winning home gym in The Cliffs at Keowee Falls
The popularity of home gyms grew exponentially over the pandemic, but fitness enthusiasts have invested in them for decades. Although a couple in Keowee Falls is the latter—fitness has always been a priority for them, and they’ve had gyms in other homes—they put special emphasis on the gym they built in 2022. The result is a top-notch space that turned their daily workouts into a spa-like experience.
The fitness room is spacious and airy, with an expansive window providing a spectacular view of Lake Keowee. The husband-wife duo was thoughtful in the selection of their equipment, with a Peloton, a rowing machine, and an elliptical, as well as free weights and a weight system with impressive variety, offering the option of around 130 different types of weighted or resistance-based exercises.
The floor of the fitness room is rubber, which provides a slight cushion as well as impact absorption, reducing the chance of leg fatigue or injuries; it’s also moisture-resistant and easy to clean. There’s plenty of room to jump rope and stretch, and mirrors allow them to check their form. Oversized doors leads to the pool area, featuring a climate-controlled lap pool as a cardio alternative, plus a built-in hot tub for soaking after a challenging workout.
Working out “is just part of our daily routine,” one of the owners tells TOWN, “so it was just a non-negotiable when building this house.” She got hooked on fitness in college, when one of her best friends introduced her to running. Although her knees have loved running less and less over the years, she says she’s “obsessed” with her Peloton. As for her husband, he taps into fitness as a stress management tool and a respite from long days in the office.
The home was built by Travelers Rest-based Gabriel Builders, a custom home builder with nearly 40 years of experience. The interiors, including the fitness room, were designed by sister company LH Design Studio. Gabriel nabbed a 2022 Bridge Award, presented by the Home Builders Association of Greenville, for the buildout, with a special highlight on the fitness room.
“I think just being active and being fit can influence anybody in a positive way. I don’t know if this gym per se has done that, because like I said, we were always pretty active,” the owner says. “But we can go down there and have this big space, so I think in terms of positivity. It makes us happy and proud that we’re able to put this room together based upon what we like and what we like to do.”
