On the dating app Hinge, one profile kept catching Katie Azzam’s eye. Matthew Hubbard’s profile included the line “Don’t hate me if I only eat vegetables,” and she didn’t. She made the first move, and they soon found out they are both vegan.
Matt arranged a perfect proposal in downtown Greenville, but Katie came down with a cold and Matt had to pivot. The next week, after breakfast at Swamp Rabbit Cafe and a run at Conestee Nature Preserve, they exchanged early Christmas gifts. Hers? A card reading “Will you marry me?” and a pen to check yes or no, a running joke with the couple. She looked up to find him holding a ring.
The ceremony was held at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church. Matt is the mastermind behind Group Therapy Pub and Playground, so it made the perfect spot for a reception. Guests enjoyed miniature golf, darts, duck pin bowling, and ax throwing, with catering from Pita House in honor of Katie’s Middle Eastern heritage. Brick Street Cafe provided the cake.
