The media is full of lists focused on the young: 30 under 30, Stars on the Rise, Ones to Watch. But a closer look shows that often, the real stars—the people breaking new ground, changing the landscape, and contributing necessary wisdom and know-how—are the people who are 55 and up.

There was once the conception that when people turned 55, they got a gold watch and a pension, and went home to while away their later years. And more power to those who are enjoying a well-earned retirement. For a growing number of people in this phase of life, it’s time to push their skills, learn more, share their knowledge, begin new ventures, and volunteer time to causes that matter.

We selected five people in Greenville who are doing just that in business, education, technology, creative arts, and more. Feel inspired by these Upstate residents who have conquered their careers, often more than once, but keep finding new and impactful ways to forge ahead.
