It was on this very patio, 25 years ago, that Mark Johnston and Doug Greenlaw sat down to talk through an idea for a new kind of community newspaper. This would be a truly local publication, built on strong relationships with readers and the community.
But even as they began work to create Community Journals and its flagship publication, the Greenville Journal, they had no idea they were also building what would become a truly modern print and digital media company, content studio, and marketing partner. Today, with publications like Upstate Business Journal, TOWN Magazine, atHome and others, Community Journals has grown into a platform for the preeminent local voices in business, arts, government, fashion, food, tech, activism, and more. It has also never swayed from its namesake mission to be a resource that is always made with, for, and about the community.
