When I was a kid, I watched The Wizard of Oz more times than I can count. I would finish watching it, rewind it, and watch it again (I even managed to melt a VHS and destroy my grandmother’s VCR from the workout I gave that tape). My favorite part of the whole movie was the transition from the sepia tones of Dorothy’s farmhouse to the bold and beautiful bright technicolor world of Oz. Against the previous flat hues, the vivid colors seemed to pop on the screen even more than the real world around me. It was mesmerizing.
With the cold and muted winter months firmly behind us as we settle into spring, our hope is to bring you that same sense of stepping into a bright new world full of vibrant color and exciting trends. Whether it’s the authentic dishes of the longstanding Greek Festival, a collection of curated looks with this season’s brightest and boldest shades, or the striking brushstrokes of the work displayed at the new Simpsonville Fine Arts Gallery, you’ll find that color is all around our vibrant community.
The late great style icon Iris Apfel once said, “Color can raise the dead.” While that may not be the literal truth, I do agree that color has immense power. It has the ability to influence our emotions and give presence and life to our everyday routines. So, as you flip through the pages of this issue of TOWN, I hope you’re transported to a world of bright, bold color and find inspiration to bring that vibrancy into your own personal world.
