It’s the thick of summer, and by now if you haven’t escaped to a little piece of aquatic heaven to cut the heat, well, bless your heart. Mercifully, from pools to ponds, there’s plenty of water in the Upstate, and one special place that can dress you for the occasion. Splash on Main has been the Greenville gal’s swimwear go-to for seven years, and owner Anne Mayher has a knack for styling patrons in the high-end suits so befitting those lazy lake days in July.

But if you’re envisioning rack upon rack of bright bikinis, think again. While they do carry the latest suits from designer brands like L*Space, Shoshanna, and Tory Burch, the swim- and resort-wear boutique also offers all the essentials for stylish and practical play in the sun, from party ponchos to dock dresses.

For water lovers who lean a little more surf’s-up, a little less lounge-by-the-pool, grab a chic rash guard by Seafolly or Citrine, or an athletic one-piece from Penbrooke, which come in a range of colors (and tummy-tuck help, too). There’s also an abundance of swim skorts and skirts by 24th & Ocean, and a delightful selection of swim shirts for kids (SPF 50). And let’s not forget the hats. The wide-brim sun hats may steal the show, but the visor variety is certainly chic, not to mention the plethora of fedoras and bucket hats.

It’s tempting to lose oneself in the sundress display on the way out—a particular seersucker shift from Mud Pie catches my eye, and there’s also an entire rack of Draper James. As for Anne, she slipped us her pro tips on what’s hot this summer.

“The biggest trend we’re seeing is textured fabrics, like French terry cloth, waffle-weave textures, and smocked fabrics,” Anne advises. “Not only are they durable, but flattering and beautiful as well. Also trending are cut-out one pieces, one shoulder tops, and non-traditional swimwear colors like lilac purples and golden yellows.”
