Frosty Farmer Winter Market

Just because the temperatures are chilly, doesn’t mean you have to miss fresh produce this winter. Check out the new location of the Frosty Farmer as it celebrates its second year. At the indoor market, 100 local vendors will offer their wares—edible and not—from root vegetables, eggs, and artisanal cheeses to handmade soaps and jewelry. And they gladly accept SNAP/EBT.

McAlister Square, 225 S. Pleasantburg Dr., Greenville. Jan. 4–Apr. 26, Sat., 9am–1pm. frostyfarmer.com

Jan 25 thru Feb 9

Peter and the Starcatcher

Based on the 2004 novel Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, this story was adapted for the stage by Rick Elice. You’ll recognize many of the characters, as the plot is the precursor to Peter Pan. Enjoy the spectacle that unravels as a young orphan and his friends are shipped from Victorian England to a distant island, encountering pirates, hostile natives, and a nasty crocodile along the way.

Centre Stage, 501 River St., Greenville. Thru Feb. 9, Thurs.–Sat., 8pm; Sun., 3pm. Tickets start at $35. 864.233.6733, centrestage.org

Jan. 31–Feb 16

Jane Anger

Imagine Shakespeare stuck in a house with his apprentice, a young female writer, and his wife during the plague—shades of the pandemic, right? Almost, except that this is 1606, Shakespeare has writer’s block, and the entire concept suggests Monty Python meets Masterpiece Theatre. Come watch the uproarious creativity and conflict in this adult comedy as The Bard struggles to pen King Lear.

Warehouse Theatre, 37 Augusta St., Greenville. Jan. 31–Feb. 16, Thurs.–Sat., 8pm; Sun., 3pm. General admission, $35; reserved seats, $40. 864.235.6948, warehousetheatre.com

Thru Feb 16

Jamie Wyeth: Unsettled

A rare look into the shadowy side of celebrated artist Jamie Wyeth, Unsettled displays more than 50 works taken from the Brandywine Museum of Art in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, and private collections across the US. Evocative portraits are meant to disquiet the viewer, while other canvases draw imagery from the natural and supernatural worlds. Art buffs will find this exhibit a marked departure from Wyeth’s more familiar coastal views and farmscapes.

Greenville County Museum of Art, 420 College St., Greenville. Thru Feb. 16, Wed.–Sat. 10am–5pm; Sun., 1–5pm. Free. gcma.org

Thru Feb 8

The heat goes on as first Burrs, then Queenie, flirt with other people, arousing each other’s ire. By the end of the evening, Burrs’s rage gets the best of him, and he resorts to violence. (This show is recommended for ages 13+.)

Chautauqua History Comes Alive: Charlie Chaplin

By bringing history to life through interactive theater performances and compelling discussion, Chautauqua celebrates our culture’s diversity. This month’s show shines a light on British comic actor Charlie Chaplin and his first “talkie,” the brazen 1939 satire of Hitler, The Great Dictator. After advocating for the US to support Russia in a second front against Germany in 1942, Chaplin’s allegiance was questioned by the House Un-American Activities Committee.
