Miriam Brantley and Grayson Reames had a wedding and reception planned for January 11, a day when forecasters were predicting a snowstorm. These predictions often turn out to be little more than a cold rain, so they remained hopeful, but by Thursday, January 9, they had to make the call—they were moving their wedding up a day, to January 10, and were canceling their reception.
It was a difficult decision, but the couple didn’t want to put guests or vendors in danger. The 11:30a.m. ceremony at Downtown Presbyterian Church ended up “being the sweetest day,” says Miriam. “We were surrounded by so many people and felt so celebrated, even without all the bells and whistles we initially planned.”
Miriam and Grayson met through a mutual friend, Margaret Kaiser, who had a hunch they would click. A planner and “real Nancy Drew” type, Miriam did not think Grayson could surprise her with a proposal. But with the help of friends, family, and a few misleading conversations, he managed a romantic surprise during a walk at Conestee Nature Preserve, followed by an engagement celebration with friends and family at Lake Hartwell.
For the updated ceremony, the bride wore a gown and veil from The Dress in Mauldin. The couple served lunch catered by Sullivan’s Metropolitan Grill in Anderson and sweet potato cake from Brick Street Cafe. Miriam, a nurse at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial, and Grayson, a youth sports consultant, plan to live in Greenville.
