For owner and designer Katerina “Katy” Vashchilko, Greenville’s newest fashion boutique, Maymont, wasn’t a dream she realized all at once. It took years of introspection, discovery, and overcoming adversity to arrive at the “Aha!” moment that sparked a beautiful new venture with clothing now being worn by women everywhere.

“I was an international lawyer before I started Maymont,” says Vashchilko from inside her gleaming storefront filled with golden light, crisp lines, and vivid colors. “When I decided to open my own business, I wanted it to align with my passion for fashion, so I started researching sewing, materials, machines, accessories. The obsession began when I made my first jacket. I knew I couldn’t do anything else.”

Vashchilko launched her fashion line in 2020 in her home country of Belarus with just two people and a small garage production. Maymont has since grown to become a 30-person team with a portfolio centered around timeless style and high-quality European craftsmanship—even spotted at New York Fashion Week. After dangerous political turmoil led her to trade Belarus for the Upstate, Vashchilko opened Maymont’s first showroom on Main Street in downtown Greenville.

Modern, classic pieces for both glamorous occasions and casual everyday wear are the focus at Maymont, with an emphasis on approachable layering and flattering cuts for every figure. Seasonal collections use new fabrics and textures to bring freshness and fun to her more than 1,000 self-created patterns—all while staying true to Vashchilko’s vision of timeless quality.

“Amazing quality is a very European sensibility, and when I came to America, I noticed a lack of that quality,” reflects Vashchilko. “This is why everything we design is produced at my factory in Belarus. When you feel our clothing, you notice the materials, the strength of the construction inside and out. It is chic and classic, beautiful and functional.”
