Writer Jerry Salley contributed a story about novelist C. Davis Enloe for this issue.

“It turned out that Davis and I had, decades apart, been mentored by the same great novelist, Andre Dubus III,” Salley says. “It reminded me what a small world it is for writers, and how important it is for us to support and encourage each other.”

As co-founder of Good Art Co., a gallery and studio, J. Morgan McCallum has plenty of insight on the intersection of art and style.

“I’ve been thinking a lot about art and style as ‘taste’—something that cannot be artificially replaced,” she says. “Your taste is unique because it’s influenced by your past experiences and the community that you share it with, and I admire anyone who is leaning into that unapologetically personal perspective right now.”

Photographer Will Crooks worked on our Art of Style feature, and says he appreciated the challenge of creating “a cohesive set of images that also tapped into the personalities and visual styles of each artist.”

A favorite aspect of the assignment was “seeing how their personal style complemented or contrasted with the aesthetics of their homes or studios.”
