After studying interior design at New York City’s Fashion Institute of Technology, Danielle Walter’s career took a turn when she got a job as a retail buyer in the Upstate. Now she combines both passions—interior decorating and purchasing merchandise—for her jewel box of a home décor shop called Diggs Designs.

The demand for interior design services has risen steadily over the past two years as people spend much more time at home. Serendipitously, Walter’s interior design clients, both residential and commercial, are all within a ten-mile radius of her year-old Augusta Street store, where she joyously meets and greets customers to share her carefully curated goods from all over the world.

“My aim is to build connection, and why I do what I do is to connect the environment and the client to achieve a sense of synergy with their space. I want people to love their surroundings. I want to spark joy and to provide relaxation, comfort, and inspiration,” she says.

Walter’s signature style is what she refers to as “global eclectic chic.” When asked about design trends, she thinks of herself as “a trailblazer rather than a trend follower.” A reflection of her deft ability to mix colors, patterns, and textures in her interior designs, the shop is an exciting fusion of imported items from Africa to Australia, including goods from England, France, Italy, Mexico, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Indonesia, Canada, Scandinavia, India, and Turkey. The dazzling displays showcase artwork, furniture, books, candles, vases, pillows, lighting, planters, rugs, and other unexpected home accessories.

“I appreciate and support artisans and artists, whether local or international,” Walter shares. “I hope to bring a bit of that flair to Greenville.”

Foyer Fixes

The moment someone enters your home needs maximum impact, and it starts when the door swings open into the foyer. Welcoming others into an elegant space is the perfect way to showcase your design skills—just follow these easy ideas.

  • Use a dramatic, bold light fixture overhead.
  • Try a wallpaper with texture.
  • Choose a beautiful console. If it’s modern, mix in some antiques. If it’s antique, pick modern accessories.
  • Vitalize the space with a gorgeous vase and fill it with flowers or greenery.
  • Candles are a must.
  • Music sets the mood, so conceal some speakers and turn on the tunes.
  • Install dimmers to control lighting.
  • Add artwork for a personal touch.
