Bake Room 2.0
As sad as we were to hear in March that the beloved Bake Room at The Commons was closing, we are buoyed back up by the news that Methodical Coffee has acquired the Bake Room from owner Wade Taylor.
As next-door neighbors at The Commons, Methodical and Bake Room complemented each other with side-by-side coffee and pastries. Methodical’s owners plan to work with Taylor to train their baking staff in his methods during the transition. “We want to build on what Wade has already established,” says David Baker, Methodical’s co-owner.
Bake Room’s wildly popular Morning Buns and chocolate croissant will be the first pastries available; Methodical hopes to roll out more laminated pastries and bread in turn as the summer progresses. “We are so excited at this opportunity,” says Baker. “This was not on our radar, but sometimes the best ideas are ones you haven’t even imagined.”

Adventures in Wonderland
Cocktails served in china tea cups and mushroom-shaped glasses, oversized flowers “growing” out of the ceiling, a wall mural of the Queen of Heart’s courtyard—the Mad Hatter would be right at home in The Press Room with its new themed pop-up experience, Cheshire’s Hideaway.
Through the summer, you can follow Alice down the rabbit hole into a whimsical world where dainty tea sandwiches served in a birdcage fuel perpetual tea time, libations have monikers like Off With Their Head (Reposado tequila and strawberry tarragon syrup) and The Wrong Alice (a light gin-based drink topped off with soda), and little frosted cakes are inscribed with the words “Eat me.”
But before you can enter, you must consult the clocks on the wall outside The Press Room to decipher the secret code. Hurry, or like the White Rabbit, you’ll be late!

Sit-Down Supper with Ashley Strickland Freeman
A Southern favorite, Duke’s mayonnaise lords it over all the others where the Upstate is concerned. Greenville native Eugenia Duke first bottled her now-famous condiment in 1923, and it has graced recipes throughout the South ever since.
Make sure you get a seat at the table at M. Judson Booksellers when this Sunday supper celebrates Duke’s mayo in a multicourse dinner prepared by Chef Teryi Youngblood Musolf—a Southern girl herself—based on recipes from award-winning food stylist, recipe developer, and author Ashley Strickland Freeman. Reserve your place at the table for this delightful down-home dinner. Ticket price includes a signed copy of Freeman’s latest title, The Duke’s Mayonnaise Cookbook.
