Dennison and Kayla were friends in high school and reconnected when both attended Clemson University. After dating for several years, Dennison engaged in some subterfuge to achieve a surprise engagement. Kayla was planning an evening with friends at Juniper and was surprised, and a bit annoyed, when Dennison said he couldn’t give her a ride. Forced to walk with her cousin to the restaurant, Kayla also didn’t like her cousin’s idea of an additional stroll through Falls Park, making them very late for their night out. But as they approached the Reedy River, all irritation subsided—Dennison was there, surrounded by rose petals, on one knee. A party followed at their home, with friends and family from around the country.
After their special engagement there, Falls Park made a perfect site for the ceremony, which was held at Old Mill Garden with a reception at the Venue at Falls Park (now The Vue 1919). Per New Orleans tradition–Dennison was born and raised there–a jazz band led the congregation in a Second Line, with Dennison and Kayla up front with umbrellas while guests waved handkerchiefs.
The reception included music from Erica Berg & The Collective, catering from Reeves Catering, and florals from McClain’s Flowers & Gifts. The engagement ring and wedding bands were from Pace Jewelers, and Kayla wore a dress from Gown Boutique of Charleston.
Kayla, a water resources engineer at Thomas & Hutton, and Dennison, an attorney at Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, now live in Greenville, “our forever home,” Kayla says.
