The Altar Day Spa is an oasis incorporating ancient wellness traditions

With the frenzied pace of life today, those who seek a respite can now discover a secret setting to refresh and renew in Greenville. Hidden underneath the historic 1918 Beaux Arts-style building housing M. Judson Booksellers, The Altar Spa provides unparalleled luxury imbued with global wellness influences.

Owner Karen Sobocinski, a well-traveled spa devotee, wanted to incorporate a variety of ancient healing traditions; therefore, the day spa offers a range of beauty services to smooth the body, soothe the mind, and rebalance the spirit. In addition, there’s a carefully curated collection of luxe goods including designer sunglasses, cult favorite European skin and body care products, comfortable loungewear, and elegant, decorative home accessories.

Designed as a place to set positive intentions and reflect in a quiet, peaceful atmosphere, the 6,000-square-foot spa even includes an altar room. Along with centuries-old modalities like Ayurveda, yoga, Reiki, meditation, and reflexology, guest lecturers are scheduled to speak on wellness-centered topics.

The reception area features terrazzo floors, two huge blown-glass chandeliers, and a gold, white, and blush color scheme with an Art Deco influence. There are ten treatment rooms (the men’s area is done in green onyx; the women’s in pink onyx), plus separate men’s and women’s hammams (Turkish baths) replete with Moroccan marble sinks and Japanese soaking tubs.

The Altar Spa offers a unique membership program. Members receive benefits such as special discount pricing, a customized personal bathrobe, a once-yearly 24-karat-gold body treatment, weekly LED red-light therapy sessions, invitations to members-only social events and retreats, all-inclusive upgraded treatments, a dedicated concierge to aid in their rejuvenation journey, and valet parking.

The spa is open seven days a week to members as well as walk-ins.  “We really have a treasure in this unique space to deliver a deluxe experience to Greenville where people can escape and relax in ultimate luxury,” says Sobocinski.
