Fore! High style, bright colors, and fun design dominate this year’s game

When it comes to sports, golf is undoubtedly one of the most traditional, with its manicured venues, hushed tones, and structured play. But that doesn’t stop linksmen and women from injecting personality into their wardrobes. “We’re seeing more hoodies, bright colors, and florals,” shares Ashley Hayes, merchandise manager at Thornblade Club. “We’re also having a lot of fun with microprints, injecting Transfusions and cocktail glasses with our logo.”

Ahhh, Transfusions? The magical vodka, ginger ale, and grape juice elixir featured on a shirt? OK, we’re game. What else do you have? “We’ve steadily been expanding athleisure wear for ladies. It’s evolving,” she reveals. “And we’re improvising with our logo: the single rose.”

Across town, Greenville Country Club’s Pro Shop is making use of the Chanticleer course mascot, a rooster. “Chanticleer celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020,” explains Sean McGaughey, golf director. “We teamed up with Jack Mason for an anniversary watch. It’s heavy, like a Rolex, and has a custom-made bezel just for the club with the rooster. It’s a nice-looking piece.”

No matter where athletes hit the links, if they look good, they feel good, which helps to seize every mental edge possible when one stroke determines who buys drinks at the 19th hole.

If you’re visiting Greenville Country Club or Thornblade Country Club, consider trying on these ensembles.

Greenville Country Club Golf Attire

This blue B. Draddy hoodie and shirt ensemble checks multiple boxes. The high-end, quarter-zip sweatshirt is conservative in color yet hip with a hood. Peruvian pima cotton with just enough stretch makes it soft to the touch, and the shirt adds a pop of color with stripes to match the hoodie. B. Draddy hoodie, $140; B. Draddy shirt, $115.

In limited quantity, the Chanticleer anniversary Jack Mason watch is a lifestyle collector’s piece. The Texas-based watch company is known for combining Americana and contemporary design at affordable prices. Chanticleer anniversary watch, $275.

Perfect headwear to shield you from the Carolina sun, Richardson caps are a preferred brand across the world of sports. Richardson cap, $35.

Whimsy meets comfort in these G/Fore kicks with keen attention to detail. They feature premium waterproof leather tops, skull and crossbones on the bottom, and a triple-density foam cushion. (Make sure the skull and crossbones are on the bottom of these shoes . . . they are only on some models.) G/Fore shoes, $225.

In this Peter Millar ensemble, the Opal stretch jersey polo brings the sass with scalloped edging on the sleeves and collar. The moisture-wicking fabric also delivers UPF50+ sun protection. Pair it with the Alice petal-hem skort and quarter-zip pullover for a winning look. Peter Millar polo, $75; Peter Millar skort, $88; Peter Millar pullover, $120.

Female athletes will appreciate the back panel on the Imperial Hinson baseball cap, with matching elastic to allow either a high or low ponytail to fit through the hat. Hinson baseball cap, $30.

Traditions shoes by FootJoy, the longtime leader in golf footwear, feature a pink bottom and interior. FootJoy shoes, $99.
