Leslie Lakes grew up in an artistic household in Greenwich Village, New York City, with a fashion designer mother and a metallurgical engineer father. Attending the Greenwich House of Pottery and Painting and the Greenwich House School of Music as a child, her creativity reached new levels when her family relocated to Paris, France.
Now living in Greenville, her passion for music, art, and animals is evident in her paintings. Though she works in a variety of styles, she has created a large collection of animals painted on vintage sheet music. “As an artist, I love to combine anything nostalgic, including antique sheet music, in my work,” she says. “The juxtaposition of different elements is designed to provoke thought, tickle the senses, make one smile, and bring joy to the viewer.”
Her work is available at Woodbine Studio & Gallery at Westside Market, 3510 Augusta Rd., Greenville.
