See the award-winning designs that bring your favorite characters to life
At this blockbuster exhibition at the South Carolina State Museum in Columbia, the movies come to life through costumes worn by the Disney heroes that inspired them—and the villains everyone loves to hate. Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume showcases 70 costumes worn by actors including Angelina Jolie, Glenn Close, and Johnny Depp.
Get a behind-the-scenes look with perspectives from Academy Award-winning costume designers who share how live-action costumes replicate cartoon images. Curated by the Walt Disney Archives, the exhibit features costumes from Pirates of the Caribbean, Mary Poppins Returns, Into the Woods, Maleficent, and many more.
Summer Nights

On August 15 and September 19, the museum stays open until 9 p.m. In addition to the Heroes & Villains exhibit, guests can view a special film screening featuring the costumes on display. The August 15 feature is Maleficent (2014), and on September 19, it’s A Wrinkle in Time (2018). Weather permitting, this is also a great time to visit the museum’s observatory for sky viewing.
