My husband and I love entertaining. As a chef, he is always looking for an excuse to cook for people. More than once, we’ve found ourselves hosting pizza nights or seasonal parties and realizing that there are a number of guests we don’t really know who somehow ended up in our home (usually after tagging along with someone else). We’ve actually met some pretty cool people this way and have just adopted the attitude of “the more the merrier.” Whatever we have, others are welcome to enjoy.
This food and entertaining issue of TOWN embodies that spirit. You’ll meet Jorge Barralas of Papi’s Tacos, who has brought his culture and food to Greenville for so many (myself included) to enjoy; Michael Kramer, who has opted to share his exquisite recipes in a new book rather than keeping them a secret; and Kim Nelson, whose cakes have made it into homes across the US. You’ll also find the perfect wine pairings to host your own event, and maybe a new pair (or three) of shoes to wear to your next holiday gathering.
Over the last few years, as my husband and I have hosted more food-centric get-togethers, I’ve met and become friends with many new people. And what’s even better: I’ve watched others walk away from our parties having tried new foods that they now love, and with new friends that they just met. So if you’re ever in our neighborhood and see the smoke from our pizza oven, come on in and pull up a chair. Everyone is welcome at the table.
